For the 99%

I encourage the people sharing their stories to view how they might be perceived by those they are fighting against. For instance, a piece of paper that says you have a masters doesn’t mean anything more than you found the financial resources to earn a degree and did your homework to receive the certificate. The degree means nothing. Your brain means something. Show people you are smart.

Telling someone you had a job for a really long time (and got laid off) or that you went to college (and racked up tons of debt) or that your can’t afford insurance (and you’ve become sick) makes it appear you are trying to earn pity. But doesn’t tell me what you’ve done with your degree. Or what talents you have that made your former employer keep you on as long as they did. Or why you are in poor health.

I really hate to see so many people in this mess. The way out is to communicate well, show and use your skills, work very hard, be persistent, be nice.

And finally, if you are protesting on Wall Street, dress smart. The medium is part of the message.
